Ember

  • The Glitch 134 Lower Marsh London, England, SE1 7AE United Kingdom (map)

How do you know if you're not remembering something? Ember has a hole in her memory that she doesn’t know is there. All she knows is she’s started to get angry. So angry. Day-to-day events become a terrifying – and awkward - obstacle course of survival as her anger begins to smoulder, then burn. As her body begins to fight back, and her silenced past strives to break out and be remembered, she clings to her best friend Jas as they try and find a way to confront the past – without getting scorched.

A furious, funny play exploring female friendship, memory and how we deal with trauma.

About the Artist:
Eleanor Crosswell originally trained as an actor at LAMDA. When there, she created verbatim work using her own interviews with people about their greatest fear. Upon leaving training, she had an idea for a short film highlighting abortion rights (Trust), using the thriller genre to show a different angle on this issue. An early draft of the script was selected as a quarter finalist in the ScriptApalooza short film competition. The film was picked up by a producer, and completed 2021. It screened at UN Women's film festival and won the Jury prize at Boundless. Earlier drafts of Ember have been longlisted for RSC's 37 Plays, and made it to the top 10% of the Verity Bargate Award, BBC Writers Open Call, and the Bush Theatre open submissions.
