Gather Your Skeletons is a stand-up show about bones, work and death from award-winning comedian Rich Spalding.
For the last decade of my life, I’ve sat in a chair for 40 hours every week writing radio adverts and destroying my spine. It wasn’t the dream, but it’s also not a nightmare; and that’s the perfect recipe for the kind of thing you might accidentally end up doing until you die.
What, really, is the point of working hard? In a world obsessed with grinding, hustling and maximising productivity – does any of it actually matter? There must be another way to spend your one miraculous chance at being alive.
Framed by my many and varied attempts to escape the daily grind (fronting the most boring band in Britain, penning an erotic novel and, most embarrassing of all, stand-up comedy), this show asks, ‘what is the meaning of life?’ And also ‘what is the best meal deal?’ Which, when you think about it, is essentially the same question.
