Know your Polari your police slang? Your apples and pears from your techno-talk? Join Lee Campbell as he curates a one-night-only evening of performances of poems written in different slang languages. Lee has invited the UK’s most exciting spoken word artists to share different slang languages to delight, entertain and educate the audience.

Artists performing on the night will be Steve Tasane, Pip McDonald, Frankie Calvert
Jeremy Dixon, Julie Granger, Richard Allen and Lee himself. Jeremy and Lee will share poems that demonstrate their love of covert gay male slang language of Polari and other LGBT subcultural slangs, Steve and Julie will explore Cockney rhyming slang and Pip will entertain the audience with her engaging and timely techno-tastic poetry. As part of his performance, Richard will include a wonderful poem about slang word plays used amongst the London Met police force whilst Frankie has said her slang poetry will be ‘an elephant in the room’. Whatever that means (!), expect a performance that will visually arouse and entertain alongside Lee’s own visual-heavy performances and tonight will be no exception – expect his trademark picture book poetry alongside cassette tape recordings of 1990s football matches as part of his performance of his poem ‘Tackle’.

  • Some of the slang used may be seen as offensive by some.
